Last month, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.J. Res. 140 in a bipartisan 214-208 vote, a bill which would reverse a 2023 mineral withdrawal on federal land in northern Minnesota. This bill would allow mining companies to regain access to federal lands within their mineral rights – meaning jobs for UA members who play an essential role in accessing critical minerals. The Minnesota Pipe Trades Association and President Andy Campeau have been instrumental in educating Members of Congress and working with our signatory contractors to ensure the future of mining in Minnesota continues to meet the highest environmental and quality standards. This bill now moves to the Senate, where the UA will continue to work with our allies to send the bill to the President’s desk.
