United States Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh addressed the 40th General Convention of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO, CLC (UA) on its opening day today in San Diego, California, with a satellite site in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for Canadian delegates:
“As a card-carrying building trades member, Secretary Walsh approaches his job at the Department of Labor with a deep understanding of the challenges facing our members each and every day. Secretary Walsh has already been a strong partner to the United Association as we work together to rebuild and modernize our nation’s infrastructure and build back better,” said Mark McManus, General President of the United Association.
“Even in the face of a global pandemic, the brothers and sisters of the United Association didn’t break stride – proving once again that we are ‘Always Essential.’ As Secretary Walsh said in his speech today, our two nations depend on the work done by UA members; when times are tough, union members step up. We’re proud of the work our members have done building temporary hospitals, delivering clean and safe water, and modernizing our nation’s energy infrastructure as we start to build back better.”
