A Thank You to the Representatives Who Voted to Protect Davis-Bacon

Thursday, July 2, 2020

Dear Friend,

On behalf of the more than 359,000 members of the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA), I write to thank you for your vote to protect fair wages for American workers yesterday. As you know, Davis-Bacon protections are absolutely essential to ensuring that our members earn fair wages on federally funded projects. We at the UA are grateful for the overwhelmingly bipartisan majority that voted down the anti-Davis-Bacon Foxx Amendment to HR 2, the Moving Forward Act.

Davis-Bacon protections have been the standard by which federally funded projects are completed ever since they were first introduced in 1931. This long and proudly bipartisan history is a testament to the working men and women – including those of the UA – who built this country. Now, during the COVID-19 crisis, it is especially important that our elected Representatives protect the hard-earned and fair wages American workers need.

It is in that light that the entire UA thanks you for your vote yesterday. This small act does not go unnoticed. In fact, quite the opposite: our membership is highly engaged, especially when it comes to their wages and livelihoods. I can say with great confidence that each and every one of our members is grateful for the vote you took to protect prevailing wage.

Thank you, again, for standing with UA members across the country, and thank you for your open lines of communication throughout this process of passing HR 2. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or my staff should you need anything further.

Respectfully yours,

Mark McManus

General President
