An Energy Policy that Works for Us
At the UA, we strongly support – and consistently advocate on Capitol Hill for – an all-of-the-above energy approach that protects good union jobs and allows us to continue to deliver safe, affordable, and reliable energy to American families while still reaching our shared climate goals.
An all-of-the-above approach will put UA members to work while also reducing carbon emissions and negative impacts on the environment. All-of-the-above encompasses industries in which UA members are already hard at work, including but not limited to:
- Oil and liquified natural gas (LNG) pipelines and refineries,
- Carbon capture sequestration (CCS),
- Emerging hydrogen technologies,
- Concentrated solar power (CSP), and
- Nuclear power.
When taken together, this all-of-the-above energy approach provides a realistic transition to the clean energy economy of the future while providing long-term job stability for UA members. We have always been at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, and we will continue to fight for our jobs and our industries when it comes to our energy infrastructure.
Funding the UA Secured for Energy Projects
During the Biden administration, our Department worked closely with the White House and both parties in Congress to pass historic levels of funding for energy projects – all with strong labor protections attached.
The result?
UA jobs delivering affordable and reliable energy.
How We Utilize Labor Protections – and Why
The transition to a so-called green economy has unfortunately not included strong labor protections, nor has it actually helped us achieve both our energy and climate goals. Contractors within this sector often rely on non-union labor and are not bound by Davis-Bacon protections or PLAs. Under an all-of-the-above approach, we will ensure Davis-Bacon and PLAs are in use on all projects to protect our jobs and fair wages.
We fought tirelessly to include strong labor protections on funding for energy projects, to fight back against the non-union work.
Public investment is an essential tool to meeting our nation’s ambitious shared energy and climate goals. But we must ensure the future of American energy is not powered by a race to the bottom.
As energy needs increase and the demand on our grid worsens, the UA is proud to lead the path forward and bring affordable energy to communities nationwide.
