Building and Modernizing Our Nuclear Fleet

UA members are proud to build the future of clean, reliable, and affordable energy – and thanks to our hard work in Congress, American nuclear energy is poised to lead the way forward. We’ve secured strong labor protections modernizing our existing fleet and building new nuclear, like small modular reactors (SMRs), to meet our ambitious baseload energy needs.

An Essential Piece of the Puzzle

UA members are proud to build the future of clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Thanks to our hard work in Congress, American nuclear energy is poised to lead the way forward. We’ve secured strong labor protections modernizing our existing fleet and building new nuclear, like small modular reactors (SMRs), to meet our ambitious baseload energy needs.

Nuclear energy is responsible for roughly 20% of our nation’s energy supply – trailing only natural gas and renewables – making it an essential component of a successful all-of-the-above energy approach.

Our Department works with both parties in Congress to ensure the future of American nuclear energy is built by the best trained and most highly skilled craftspeople in the industry: the men and women of the UA.

    Robust Investments for the Future

Nuclear energy is an essential component of a successful all-of-the-above energy approach. That’s why the UA works with both parties in Congress to increase funding for new and existing nuclear power plants with strong labor protections attached.

During the Biden administration, our Department secured historic investments in the future of nuclear technology.

We continue to work with the Trump administration to protect this funding and ensure the future of our nation’s nuclear fleet is built by the men and women of the UA.
