CHIPS Women in Construction Framework Will Create More Opportunities, Increase Women in our Trades

May 2, 2024

United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) General President Mark McManus
praised the launch this morning of the Department of Commerce’s CHIPS Women in Construction
framework, with initial commitments by Intel and Micron, as a strong step to create more
opportunities for women in our trades:

“At the United Association, we are proud to lead the way forward in the building trades with our
efforts to create more pathways for women to join our ranks. We are committed to ensuring that
our great union looks like the communities in which we live and serve. To that end, today’s
announcement is a strong step towards accomplishing that goal,” said Mark McManus, General
President of the United Association. “It will take all of us – organized labor, our contractor
partners, government, and communities – to accomplish this mission. Thanks to the leadership
of Secretary Raimondo and the Biden Administration, we are on the right path. The entire United
Association looks forward to continuing this important work with all of our partners, including
Intel and Micron.”
